Scientific Explanations for the Phenomenon of Adding the Letter Alif in the Uthmani Orthography : An Analytical Study

The current research aims to study one of the phenomena of Uthmani orthography, which is the addition of the letter alif in the words of the Glorious Qur’an, and such addition violates the accepted rules of orthography. It also explains the scientific reasons for this addition away from affectation and arbitrariness, and overburdening it. The approach used is inductive and analytical; it is conducted through tracing the Qur’anic words that have greatly affected the addition, then analyzing and studying them to realize the practical impact that appears in their structure. One of the most prominent findings of the research is that the addition of the letter alif occurs because of scientific reasons that it is impossible to enter the guessing and doubt in its credibility, and the addition is regarded as a strong influence in determining the image of the words of the Glorious Qur’an. It concludes that the most addition is the addition of the letter alif.
