Abstract

This study discusses the topic of arrogance (kibr) in Surah Al-A‘raf, through exploring its causes, manifestations, and consequences, considering it a blameworthy trait that leads to corruption on earth and the destruction of the arrogant. The Surah presents examples from past nations, such as the people of Noah, the people of Pharaoh, and the people of Saleh, whose fate was dire due to their arrogance and rejection of the truth. The study consists of an introduction, a preface, and four main sections. The preface discusses the objectives of the Surah, the concept and reality of arrogance, its causes, and the difference between kibr (arrogance) and istikbar (haughtiness). The main sections cover: the mention of the arrogant in Surah Al-A‘raf, descriptions of the arrogant as those who reject the signs of Allah, the most dangerous aspects of arrogance depicted in the Surah, and finally, the consequences and outcomes of arrogance as illustrated in the Surah. The Qur’anic verses demonstrate how arrogance blinds a person’s insight, distancing them from humility and acknowledgment of servitude to Allah and His greatness. The study emphasizes the importance of embodying humility and avoiding all aspects of arrogance and pride, as humility is a praiseworthy quality that reflects true faith and brings a person closer to Allah, the Almighty.
